To those who have lost their jobs – by Martin Kelman It is a big deal! The emotional damage of job loss is devastating. It is the emotional damage that causes all of us to re-evaluate our lives. In this process, we tend to question our worth. Our self-esteem plunges. One of our main functions in life has just been taken from us. We identify so strongly with our employment and therefore, lose a good part of our identity when we lose a job. We also attach great worth to our jobs, and thus, a heavy blow is felt in this area. It is like a death. We feel lost, unwanted, alone, useless, depressed, and with no purpose. The list goes on and on. Thankfully, there are answers. Know that this process of evaluation is a spiritual process. All challenges in life are spiritual in nature. We may not like the circumstances, but it helps us grow as human beings. It allows us the blessing of time to consider all things in our lives. Some of us put our lives in full review during this jobless cycle. We question everything we have ever done. Did we do well? How well did we do? How can you really tell? (very popular) How could we do better? How can we improve? What did we do wrong? (very popular) What should we change? How can we make these changes? These are honest questions and we must be totally honest in our answers. Hopefully, we begin to see recurring patterns and the reasons for these attitudes, values and behaviours. This spiritual process strips down the layers of values, beliefs, and conditioning created over this life, and in some cases, many lifetimes. This process is natural and occurs whenever one loses a job or other tragic events occur in their lives. We may acknowledge it and work with it, or we may let it run in the background. Use these times of challenge, to learn and grow. Ask for the help of others: Ask for spiritual guidance and solution: God has a plan for everyone on this earth. You may not like parts of the plan, and the plan is always changing. As you change, so does the plan. If employment comes up that you think is not acceptable, but is needed, go with the flow. It may lead to other employment opportunities. In truth, there is nothing that is “beneath anyone” and very few instances of “not acceptable.” Better yet, manifest your dreams into reality. This may sound too simple to work, but it works for me. When you open your heart to God, miracles great and small occur. It may be a kindness from an unexpected source that will find you an unexpected career. You may come into some money to tide you over until you get back on your feet. People will help you. You will be amazed at the number of people who have learnt compassion in the hardest of lessons, and understand how important it is to help others. These life lessons are not easy, but they have purpose. You will grow and become stronger. You will be more humble and compassionate towards others. You will find an inner strength that you thought you never had. You will make positive changes within your life. Your attitudes and perceptions will change and widen. You will evolve and you will understand why a change in world consciousness is necessary. You will find family when you thought you had none. You will find love beyond your imagination. This I do know: When I open my heart to spirit, to the angels, and to God, I know I am not alone and that all problems are solvable. With all respect and love: |
